Thank you for purchasing an Adams & Bennett® drop-in barrel. We have designed this barrel to provide the best possible performance and reliability. Please follow these instructions exactly. Remember to try several brands of Standard, Hi-Velocity and Match ammo to find which brand of ammo functions best with your gun.
I. Point gun in a safe direction, remove the magazine and check to insure that there is not a cartridge in the chamber. Lock the bolt open (figure 2).
II. Removing your old stock:
A. Carbine Style with barrel band at end of forend:
1. Remove the screw from the barrel band and remove the barrel band by sliding it forward.
2. Remove the screw from the bottom of the stock (figure 1). The first few turns will disengage the takedown screw from the action. At this point, move the barreled action forward and backward in the stock, then move the rear of the action up and down. This will familiarize you with how your gun fits in its original stock.
3. Move the safety button into a middle position 1/2 way between safe and fire. This will center it between the edges of the stock allowing the action to be removed.
4. Lift up on the barrel to remove the barreled action from the stock (figure 3). If you feel any resistance, re-check the position of the safety.
B. Sporter Style without barrel band at end of forend:
1. Remove the screw from the bottom of the stock (figure 1). The first few turns will disengage the takedown screw. At this point, move the barreled action forward and backward in the stock, then move the rear of the action up and down. This will familiarize you with how your gun fits in its original stock.
2. Lift up on the barrel to remove the barreled action from the stock.
III. Removing your original barrel:
A. With the action and barrel removed from your stock, you will see two hex screws under the barrel and in front of the action which hold the barrel block retainer in place.
B. Using a 5/32" hex key wrench, remove the hex key screws by turning them counter clockwise. Pay close attention to how tight these screws are as they should be reinstalled later to the same degree of tightness.
C. Slide the barrel forward away from the action. If the barrel is tight, a slight twisting of the barrel while pulling may be necessary.
IV. Installing your new Adams & Bennett® barrel:
A. Slide your new barrel into your action, a slight twisting of the barrel may be necessary in order to seat the barrel to full depth in the receiver. Make sure you have aligned the barrel so that the barrel retainer slips into the barrel dovetail and aligns with the hex key screw holes in the action.
B. Install the barrel retainer and hex key screws using the 5/32" hex key wrench. Tighten the hex key screws to the same degree of tightness noted in step 2 above as they came from the factory.
V. Re-installing your stock:
A. Move the safety button 1/2 way between safe and fire.
B. Locate the slot in the back of the action (figure 3).
C. With the barrel angled slightly upward (figure 2), slide the action down and back until the slot engages the step in the back of the inletting. If you feel any resistance, stop and check the safety is still centered half way between the safe and fire positions.
D. Using only slight pressure, push the barreled action down and back until it seats in the inletting.
E. Install the original takedown screw in the bottom of the stock and tighten it securely. Do not over-tighten. (figure 1).
F. Move the safety back and forth and insure that it functions smoothly and does not touch the wood. Leave it on safe.
